It’s summer time again and one of the most popular drinks of summer is the frugal fruity pool drink. It’s refreshing, cool and it helps you get through those sweltering temperatures. I like to serve these drinks at my swimming pool bar. One of the fun things about making them at home is that you can make a variety of different drinks that can be chilled or enjoyed right out of the fridge. Here are some of my favorite frugal fruity pool drinks that you can serve at your poolside bar.
The Yacht Club Punch – Made with cranberry juice and rum this drink is a real crowd-pleaser. Serve with a straw. This drink is so easy to make that you don’t need a recipe. Simply mix the cranberry juice with some rum or gin, lemon juice, a bit of cream if you like, and then ice. You can add an umbrella or any other flair you’d like to finish off the look.
Fresh Island Tamale – This one is made from a corn meal tamale which can be found at any supermarket. You’ll just want to substitute vegetable oil for the pork and red sauce. If you don’t have any corn meal you can use soybean oil instead. If you’re not sure how to make this one then just add a can of tomato soup and simmer on the stove for a few hours until the Tamale is done. You can serve it with grilled corn or vegetables as a side dish.
Fresh Blue Mountain Freeze Dipped Strawberries – These are some of my favorites. For the purposes of this drink you’ll just want to replace the strawberry soda with frozen blue mountain syrup. Then just add some fresh berries and ice. It’s served in a glass with a little honey drizzled on top. This will be the most yummy drink you’ve ever had and it’s totally frugal!
Fresh Watermelon Mango – This one’s good any time of year. However, if you live in a place that experiences harsh weather then try putting some fresh watermelon chunks in a glass of water. Just cover them over with some water. To enjoy the fruit better you’ll put some ice cubes in the glass as well. You can add any other fruit such as mangoes or strawberries.
I’m a big fan of these two drinks. They’re very tasty, inexpensive and you’ll always have your refill cans on hand. They also pack quite an energy punch! One word of caution: Make sure you serve these drinks up right. That means you’ll need a strainer to strain the beverage and avoid any spillage.
Ginger ale – Don’t let anyone tell you this isn’t a fantastic summer time drink. I enjoy the taste and am not the least bit embarrassed when my husband swigs it all night long. He claims it’s better than the traditional soda and is definitely worth trying.
If you want more ideas for Summer drinks there are plenty to choose from. These are just a few tips to get you started. Summer is coming and we should all prepare ourselves for a great time at the swimming pool. By now, you should have discovered the many different kinds of frugal pool drinks you can enjoy. There is no reason to pay full price for drinks when you can get them for a lot less money. I know I do!
You have a choice when shopping for drinks at the local store. Many of these carry some kind of rebate or exchange program. That’s a great way to save on purchases as well. Sometimes the stores that run these rebates won’t offer them at the time of purchase because the rebate is with their competitor. But that doesn’t stop you from looking either.
The most popular type of beverage served in the pool is water. If you aren’t already a fan you should be after one of these. Most people like the taste and there really isn’t anything else you could be drinking. It’s refreshing and it makes you cool. That’s another reason why it’s so popular.
People love the fact that it’s easy to cool off. There are so many tools available that make it easy. Whether it’s a water bottle or a larger cooler you are sure to find one you like. Just remember to drink plenty of water before you start and you should be fine. Don’t forget to drink plenty of ice too. It’ll keep you from getting too warm.
