Google+ Digg Integration Creates New Level of Shared Content

For all the buzz surrounding the recent acquisition of #Luce by Yahoo, few users have heard about #Luce, one of the many Community blogs set up by Yahoo. The Community blog concept is a new innovation in the online community scene and one that could give Yahoo a serious run for their money. Here’s how the community blogosphere works:

The Community blog makes content easy to find and read by anyone with an Internet connection. When someone happens across a post they like, they can easily click on the post, read the introduction, and more before deciding whether or not to take action. This helps the entire community. Users pick and choose posts that interest them based on categories they choose, and the blog also includes recommendations for other topics. This is a major differentiator from the typical e-commerce or shopping environment, where it might be more difficult to come up with content that interests readers.

Users can also use the Community blog to create their own blogs. They can write about what they’re currently focusing on, or they can talk about new topics that they’ve discovered. Yahoo has taken advantage of their established reputation in making blogging easy, but they’ve done it in a smart way. By creating a central location for bloggers to gather, Yahoo has created a hub where internet users can go for information. This is a major step forward in Internet marketing.

Many users will also want to use the Community to catch breaking news. Yahoo has picked up many scoops through its journalists and is working to extend its reach through the news feeds that appear on the main page. To do this, the company has decided to create the #Luce channel. It will allow Yahoo users to receive breaking coverage on top stories from outlets around the world.

A major goal for Yahoo in building the Community is to improve communication between its customers and its developers. For every question answered, a post containing a link to Digg is added to the bottom of the list. The goal is to get as much Digg traffic as possible to each post.

Microsoft is not the first big-name computer company to enter the blogosphere. However, it is one of the more aggressive companies in the field. Other big names have attempted to enter the blogosphere, but none have quite made a splash. The new partnership between Yahoo and Microsoft is an interesting one. With Yahoo’s new blog service powering Digg, it may be the company’s chance to really make a dent in the blogosphere. If so, it may be a significant force in online marketing.

Another interesting aspect of the partnership is that it will likely affect how the search engines rank web pages. Currently, Google indexes each post on each blog individually. This means that if you blog about something unrelated to your business, Google might not even find it. Because of this new partnership with Digg, Google has seemingly taken a step towards providing personalized results to each search request. This could mean that searches based on the user’s name or IP address will be more likely to return relevant sites. It remains to be seen how successful this new function will be.

One thing that is certain is that the #Luc Mason notice has caused a stir in the blogging community. Many wonder how this new partnership between Google and Digg will affect the other prominent blogs. Will WordPress follow suit and implement their own blogging platform? Will other websites follow suit? The answer to these questions is anyone’s guess.

Regardless of whether or not Google will be able to successfully pull in more traffic through Digg, there is no doubt that other bloggers are excited. As a result, it may only be a matter of time before every website with a strong online presence starts posting a Digg-style strip on their home page. Google’s new functionality may prove useful for all internet users, but individual site owners should remain cautious of Google’s future moves. At first glance, it seems as though they are simply making their existing service more robust. However, it remains to be seen how this new partnership will affect search engine rankings, as well as how it will impact users who want a faster experience when searching for content online.
